Love/Hate – Chapter 27

“Xiao You’s place has no food,” Lei said.

“Oh yeah, now that you remind me.” Xi Men said. “Then you shall move to my place,”

“I don’t need you to decide what you want to do with my life for me,” Xiao You said.

“I am giving you the best options, therefore I hope you will move to my place. It is more conducive for you,” Xi Men said.

“It won’t be for long. I have not decided if I want to keep the baby,” Xiao You said.

“WHAT?!” all of them said.

“But… but… why?!” Jing asked. “You don’t want the baby?”

“I am not sure,” Xiao You said. “I am contemplating,”

“But, why not? You can have the baby…” Xi Men said.

“Why, you want the kid?” Xiao You asked.

Xi Men looked at Xiao You, “Err… It is not my decision, right? If you give me the baby then I would take care of him/her…”

Xiao You looked at him.

“Are you serious?” Ah Si asked. “It’s not your kid…”

“It’s Xiao You’s kid, for sure,” Xi Men said.

All of them looked at Xi Men.

“Well, yeah. Whatever,” Xiao You rolled her eyes.

“Xiao You, I will take care of you as long as you need me,” Xi Men said. “Once you are discharged from the hospital, you will move to my place,”

“I don’t need you then you don’t have to take care of me,” Xiao You said.

“Yes you do and I will not retract my offer so you must be taken care of by me,” Xi Men said. “You will move to my place after you have discharged from the hospital,”

“You won’t be home all the time. I can stay at my place,” Xiao You said.

“Err… I will go to work and come back on time to take care of you,” Xi Men said.

“I can stay at my place. I feel more at home,” Xiao You said.

“But my house has more food…” Xi Men said.

Lei patted on his shoulder. “Just top up,”

“I mean, more comfy for you,” Xi Men said.

“I don’t need you to take care of me. I’ll stay at my place,” Xiao You said, lied back comfortably and pulled the blanket over her body.

“But…” Xi Men said.

Xiao You turned and does not want to talk to him.

“Why not just let her stay at her place,” Lei said.

“I thought that would be better for her if she stays at my place…” Xi Men said.

“If she is more comfortable at her own place, then let her be. Maybe it is better for her,” Jing said.

“Then you can persuade her to go to your place at a later time,” Mei Zhuo said.

Xi Men took a deep breath. “What to do,”

**********

Xiao You lied on the hospital bed, looking up to the ceiling.

Someone opened the door. And Xiao You does not bother to turn her head to see who it is, she believes it is Dr. Wang.

“Xiao You,”

Xiao You turned and looked at the door. It’s Xi Men. She looked at him and then she turned her head, back to looking at the ceiling without even bother to acknowledge Xi Men’s presence.

Xi Men looked down a bit, and he bites his lower lip. “I brought you dinner,”

“Hospital provides me meals,” she said.

He looked at the untouched meal at the table. A bowl of plain cereal with a slice of watermelon.

“Are you sure you want to eat the meals provided by hospital?” Xi Men asked.

Xiao You turned and looked at the food on the table. She doesn’t even know how to respond.

“The food I brought is nothing luxurious. But I hope it suits your taste compared to hospital’s food. I brought you porridge that I bought from 3 streets down my office. I have to queue up for 30 minutes to get this. They say the porridge is famous and delicious,” he sits down and then placed the bowl on to the table next to her.

“You queue up for 30 minutes?”

“Yeah,”

“CEO like you needs to queue up?”

“I am a human too,” Xi Men said. “They do it on first come first serve basis, no pre-order or delivery service, or express lane,”

“You can ask your secretary to do it for you. Isn’t that your style?” she asked.

“He does not have to do everything,” Xi Men said. He opens up the cover of the porridge.

“I don’t want to eat,”

“Are you sure?” Xi Men asked. “It smells good and should taste good too,”

“You don’t eat porridge. What do you know about porridge,”

“I don’t know how it taste, you are right. So, I bought one for myself too,” Xi Men said.

Xiao You looked over. Indeed there are two bowls.

“So I’ll eat with you,” Xi Men said.

“CEO like you doesn’t have to degrade yourself by eating porridge,”

“Degrade?” Xi Men asked. “I am rich, but I have never justified porridge as a food that is for the poor or degrades a person. In fact it is a different kind of food and I have never tasted it and commoners’ foods are damn delicious. And porridge is good for you. Now, eat,” he opens the cover and extends the bowl to her.

“I don’t want to eat yet,” she said.

“Fine, then I’ll eat,” Xi Men said. And he dives the spoon into the porridge and then he took up a spoonful of porridge.

The heat is ushering out from the bowl. It is hot.

And Xi Men puts the spoon into his mouth.

“Careful, it is hot,” she said, as she looked at him.

Xi Men was greeted with an extensive heat in his mouth that he spits the porridge onto the spoon.

“WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” Xi Men yelled as the spoon miraculously disappeared from his hand.

“I told you,”

“Well, I would appreciate more if you will say it at least 5 seconds earlier!” he yelled as he looked around for something.

“Doctor is downstairs to treat your burns,” Xiao You said as she turned and lied comfortably on the bed.

And then he dashed to the washroom and quickly gargle his mouth with the cold water from the pipe.

“Doctor does not work from there!” Xiao You said, referring ‘there’ as the washroom.

A while later, Xi Men came out from the washroom. He runs his hand across his cheek and then his lips to wipe the water drops away.

“Very funny,” he said.

Xiao You looked at him, “No more burns?”

“Just a bit. Duh,” he said, as he sat down. He took the porridge in his hands. “I didn’t expect porridge would be this hot, since I traveled from the shop to here,”

“You haven’t had porridge in your life, do you?” Xiao You asked.

“Not that I remember. Maybe when I was child,” Xi Men said.

“You can take the hospital’s cereal. It has been laid there for a while and I believe it is cool now,”

“I don’t want to take hospital’s cereal,” Xi Men said.

“Whatever,” she said.

Xi Men looked around the floor while holding the bowl of porridge.

“What are you doing?”

“Where is my spoon?” he asked, and then he put the bowl down. And he continued searching while Xiao You looked at him, not contributing at all.

And then Xi Men saw a puddle near the door.

“Oops…” he said, and he immediately grabbed few sheets of tissue and wipes the puddle of PORRIDGE. He then saw the spoon landed not too far away.

Xiao You looked at Xi Men wiping on the puddle of his spitted porridge on the floor.

“You do clean ups?” she asked.

Xi Men frowned at her. “Why, you think I don’t?”

“Oh, yeah. That is why I am surprised,” she said.

Xi Men rolled his eyes and he grabbed the spoon, then stood up and threw the tissues away. “I am not really ‘that’ spoiled brat until I don’t fix my mess,”

“Oh. Like I care,” she said.

“Then, why ask?” he asked her back.

“I ask you about cleaning up. Not about spoiled or not,” she said. “Brat,” she called him.

“You…!” he said.

She smirked a bit.

He washes the spoon before he comes back to the seat.

“You sure you don’t want to eat your porridge?” he asked, as he take extra precaution now by blowing cold the scoop of porridge he taken up with the spoon. And then he puts it into his mouth. He munch a bit, “Hey, not bad,”

Xiao You looked at him, “What porridge is that?”

“I also not too sure what this porridge is. When I order that time, the guy was looking at me weirdly,” Xi Men said, as he scoops up the porridge to see what is inside to reply Xiao You. “I asked for mixture of fish, chicken, eggs, vege… everything he had there,”

“I will look at you weirdly too,” Xiao You said. “Usually it is one or the other, people would not ask or order EVERYTHING in the porridge,”

“Oh,” Xi Men said. “I saw the ingredients there, so I tell him I want everything,”

Xiao You rolled her eyes.

“But hey, it is damn nice,” he keeps eating the porridge.

Xiao You looked at him, “Are you the patient or I am?”

“Well, I bought for you also and it is here. It is up to you if you want to eat or not. And besides, do I have to be a patient to eat porridge?” Xi Men asked.

Xiao You rolled her eyes again and she focused her sight on the ceiling again, trying to ignore Xi Men gulping down the porridge. Xi Men eats the porridge hastily, and then he finished it.

“Damn, this is really nice,” Xi Men looked at Xiao You. “Do you want to eat your cereal now? I can reheat it for you at canteen,”

“I don’t want to eat anything,”

“You have to eat. You are a patient now. And you are not a robot. You must eat,” Xi Men said.

“Why do you have to be so nosy? I don’t feel like eating,” she said.

“Then eat a little bit is better than none. Even if you don’t want to eat, your baby needs to eat. Come,” Xi Men said, opening the cover of another bowl of porridge.

“I don’t want to eat!” she said.

“You have to be a responsible person for yourself now! If you don’t eat, and your baby does not have food, you are endangering not only the baby’s life but your own life too!” Xi Men said. “I am now taking care of you and therefore I need to make sure you have good and enough food and in all best form of life!”

“Why do you care, Xi Men?!” Xiao You screamed. “My life has nothing to do with you!”

“Because you said I am responsible for your life, for what happened to you because I did not contact you 6 years ago!” Xi Men said. “You said that before, and now you tell me your life has nothing to do with me. If your life has nothing to do with me, then why bother if I never contact you, that you have to raise it up?!” he looked at her.

She kept quiet.

“And now, I take care of you because you are my friend,” Xi Men said.

“I can take care of myself,” she said.

“I will take care of you the part that you can’t be able to take care of yourself,” Xi Men said.

“What?” she asked.

“It is fine. Sit up. Now, eat when you need food,” Xi Men said. “You got an option here. Either my porridge or hospital’s cereal,”

Xiao You slowly sits up and then looked at him. “Porridge,”

“I know you will choose mine. At least it tastes better than hospital food,” he cheekily said as he scoops the porridge and then blows at it.

“I hope it wasn’t awful, and better hope that you have great tongue of eating and tasting food,” she said. “I hope you don’t take rubbish as great food,”

He glared at her. “Nah,” he said, pointed the spoon at her.

“What?”

“Aaaah?” he said, imitating the act of opening the mouth.

“You feed me?” she asked.

“Yes,” he said.

“Have you blown on it?” she asked.

“Yes,” he said.

“If it is hot and burns my mouth, I’ll kill you,” she said. “Baby will have a red burned patch somewhere…” and then she saw him retracting the spoon and he blows on the porridge.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU. He blows on the porridge.

“Oi, enough,” she said. “I don’t want to eat your saliva,”

“You are really hard to manage,” he said, as he pointed the spoon to her. “If this is too cold do not blame me because you princess scared so much of hot, heat and burn, I blow for you double, triple times,”

“I thought you knew pregnant woman has a lot of demands,” she opens her mouth.

“You think I’ve deal with a lot of pregnant women or I had become father a lot of times?” he stuffs the porridge into her mouth. “You are the first pregnant woman I deal with,”

“Like I care how many you’ve deal with. But maybe you are just lack of knowledge,” she said as she munches on the porridge.

“Maybe you are the special one with lots of demands,” he said, scooping another spoonful of porridge. “Maybe you just know that I am here for you to ‘use’ so you maximize the usage of me,”

“Taking you for granted you mean?” she opens her mouth again.

“Yes. But I am the volunteer for you to be taken granted of,” he said as he stuffs the spoon into her mouth again. “I have said I will take care of you. So, I’ll try my best to fulfill your needs,”
