Love/Hate – Chapter 34

Few days later.

“Urgh…” Xiao You murmured in the toilet.

“It’s okay, Xiao You,” Xi Men patted her back.

“Okay, here comes…” Xiao You said and then continued puking again, into the toilet bowl.

“Sigh… it makes my heart feels bitter whenever I see you vomit,” he said, continue patting her back. “Morning sickness sucks,” he said.

Xi Men reached over the tissue box on the sink and then grabbed a few sheets to pass to Xiao You.

“Urgh…” she said. “There goes all the seafood noodles last night,”

He laughed. “It’s okay. I’ll bring you eat again whenever you want it to,”

“How many times have you seen me vomit, Xi Men?” she asked, wiping her lips.

“Few days,” he said.

She then slowly sits down on the dry tiled floor of the bathroom where Xi Men holds her gently. She then leaned on the wall.

“How are you feeling now?” he asked.

“Better…” she said, resting her head on the wall. “You know what…”

“What?” he asked.

“Each time I vomit, I feel like moving into the bathroom,” she said and then laughed together with Xi Men.

“So, do you want to eat something or…”

“Let me just rest a while,” she said, taking a deep breath.

“Do you still feel like vomiting?”

She shook. “No more…”

“Why not you rest in the room?” he asked. “I’ll prepare you breakfast,”

“I feel so tired to even move now,” she laughed.

“That can be solved,” he said as he moved closer to her.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Carry you, now, hold on my neck,” he said and one of his hand slides to the back of her waist and the other under her knees.

“Careful…” she said.

“I will, don’t worry,” he said as he slowly lifted her up. “Now I cannot see how to turn… without crashing on something,”

She laughed. “Don’t worry, just turn slowly, you’ll be fine,”

“Okay… please watch out for me,” he said as he slowly turned her, and then walked out from the bathroom.

He successfully carried her to her room and puts her on the bed gently.

“There, nice,” she smiled. “At least did not crash me to somewhere,” she then laughed.

Xi Men laughed. “I couldn’t afford it,” he said. “I need to be responsible for you and the one inside. The dad is gonna kill me if he ever finds out something misfortunate happened,”

Her smile faded.

He looked at her. “Did I say something…?”

She shook. “I am just tired,”

“Okay,” he smiled and patted her head. “I’ll prepare some breakfast for you, okay?”

“No porridge,” she said.

“No, not gonna cook porridge,” he smiled.

“Okay,” she smiled.

“Take a rest okay, I’ll come and get you for breakfast when I’m done,” he smiled.

She nodded.

He then stood up and walked out from the room and then heads to the kitchen.

Her smile fades off again.

“Did I say something wrong, really?” he asked himself as he looked at Xiao You looking down to the plate of American breakfast that he has cooked for her.

She then looked up at him when she noticed he is looking at her. “Why are you staring at me? I look pale alright,”

“Oh, I don’t mean that,” he said. “I was wondering why you didn’t eat,”

“Well, you didn’t either,” she said.

He then looked at his own plate. “Oh, I was… errr. You know, you are not eating, so I am not sure if I should start eating,” he made up a statement which works perfectly fine.

“So that I can eat first and then tell you whether it is crap food or nice food, and that I will suffer first before you?” she asked as she took the bread up.

“Of course that is not what I meant,” he said. “I have faith in my cooking, okay,”

She smirked. “I can see. It looks very nice indeed,”

“Thank you,” he said.

“I need to eat to know how it goes,” she then ate the ham with the egg. “Hmm… great,” she said, in between her munch.

“See, I told you,” he smiled.

She smiled.

Xi Men stopped talking and frowned.

“Wow, who’s that early bird?” Xiao You asked.

“Definitely not Lei,” Xi Men said, putting down the knife and fork, and then headed to the door and opened it.

“Good morning!”

Xi Men glared at him. “It’s just 9am!”

“Why, you mean I can’t come?” Lei walked in casually. “Hi, Xiao You!”

“Hello,” she smiled at him, and then she saw Jing coming in following Lei, before Xi Men closed the door and he heads back to the dining table.

“Now, who said that he is not the early bird?” Xiao You mumbled at Xi Men.

“That fella sleeps a lot, how do I know he wakes up so early today,” Xi Men whispers back.

“Why whispering? Sharing some secret that I shouldn’t know?” Lei asked.

Xi Men smirked at him. “You said secrets. If it is secret, of course you shouldn’t know!”

Lei and Jing laughed.

“I’ve gotten you the books that Xi Men asked us to get,” Lei said.

“Books?” Xiao You asked.

“Yeah, I am worried that while I was busy working at home, and there’s nothing on the TV to watch, I asked Lei to grab books for you,” Xi Men said.

“I get you motivational books, some magazines…” Lei said.

“Did you get her pregnancy books?” Xi Men asked.

“Pregnancy?” Xiao You asked.

“Yeah,” Xi Men said.

“No, I did not,” Lei said.

“Why not?” Xi Men asked.

Lei and Jing looked at each other. They felt that Xiao You may not want the baby so…

“I don’t want pregnancy books,” Xiao You said. “Those readings I can get from Internet,”

“But…” Xi Men said.

“No buts. And it is not like I anticipate the baby so much that I need to read those books. Magazines are fine,” she said. “Thank you,” she looked at Jing and Lei.

“You’re welcome,” Lei and Jing said.

Xiao You then glared at Xi Men for his own decision to buy her book, and what type of books before she resumed her breakfast.

So much for being overprotected.

“So how do you feel now that you’ve moved over to this place?” Jing asked.

“So far so good,” Xiao You smiled.

“I think this place is better than your house because everything is available here compared to your house,” Jing smiled.

“I was coax to move over by Xi Men because my house has no knives,” Xiao You said.

Jing laughed. “Well, at the end of the day, he just wanted you to be comfortable,”

She smirked. “You know what, I have not been going out in a while,”

“A while? I thought Xi Men said he brought you to the night market and some restaurants?”

“Yeah, just go there, eat the stuffs and come back. I don’t even get to walk more, or beyond the stall that I had my food at,” Xiao You sighed.

“But since you are there, why not?”

“He said it will tire me,” she rolled her eyes.

“See, he’s such a nice person,” Jing smiled.

“Hey, maybe I should go out with you,” Xiao You said.

“Err, I have some things to do later… but I’ll be free after 12 so I can meet you for lunch and then we can go shopping,”

“That’s great,” Xiao You smiled.

“You want maternity clothes already?” Jing suddenly speaks.

“Ah? No…” Xiao You said.

“Oh, err… anything you want to buy specifically?” Jing asked.

“No…” Xiao You said.

“Hmm… window shopping?” Jing asked.

“Yes, yes,” Xiao You smiled.

“So how was life as a home CEO now?” Lei laughed at Xi Men.

“So far so good,” Xi Men smirked at Lei.

Lei stopped laughing. He initially meant to tease Xi Men but it seems did not work. He and then looked at Xi Men, “You sound like you enjoyed the change,”

“Well, slightly. It takes me a while to adapt about not going to office,” Xi Men said. “But I notice the difference of working at home and working at office,”

“Such as?”

“No need to wake up early, dress up, drive, paying for petrol, stuck in jam…” Xi Men counted. “And I get to take care of Xiao You, eat with her, be there for her when she needs me,”

“Let me put it right…” Lei said. “You ALWAYS wake up early. You don’t need an alarm to get you up most of the time. You love driving, and you don’t mind paying for the petrol because you are rich enough it doesn’t matter to you, and the time you go to office… there’s no traffic jam because you are in office early! You are a workaholic!”

Xi Men glared at him. “You…”

And Lei interrupts him, “I see your point, that all these changes happen to you because you are taking care of Xiao You, that you gets to eat with a girl rather than us; your buddies, and… has she ever asked you for help?”

“She…” Xi Men stopped. He then looked straight. “Hmmm,” he scratches his jaw.

“Hm?” Lei repeated after him.

“Actually… just food,” Xi Men said, looking at Lei.

“She only tells me what she wanted to eat, get them for her… and that’s about it,” Xi Men said.

“That doesn’t seem like ‘help’ to me,” Lei said.

“Well, I know. She is a pregnant woman with cravings,” Xi Men said.

“You mean, asides from that, there is nothing that she had asked your help for?”

Xi Men shook. “Not that I remember…”

“So that means she doesn’t really need you in that way,” Lei said.

“I mean, when she needs me, I want to be there,” Xi Men said.

“Do you actually LIKE her?” Lei asked, emphasizing the word LIKE.

Xi Men looked at Lei at a speed of light. “I… no,”

“Hold,” Lei raised his palm at Xi Men. “What’s with that reaction?”

“What reaction?”

Lei looked at him. “Nevermind,” he already knew the answer.

Xi Men could have likened her. It’s just that either he didn’t know it, or he refused to admit it.

“What about all the meetings?” Lei said.

“I postponed them. I asked Secretary Xu to delay them for me,” Xi Men said.

“Just so you can stay home?” Lei asked.

“Xi Men, I am going shopping later with Jing,” Xiao You speaks up from the dining room, to which both Lei and Xi Men turned and looked at her from living room.

“Shopping? Where? With Jing only?” Xi Men asked.

“Yeah,” Xiao You said.

“But I can only meet her up during lunch,” Jing said.

“You mean you’re going to be alone? No, no, you can’t go,” Xi Men said.

“But why?!” Xiao You whined.

“I don’t want you to get tired, and if you are alone, who is going to help you when you needed people? Do you have something to buy?” Xi Men asked.

“Then don’t go. Since you have nothing to buy, then stay at home: read books, watch TV, sleep,”

Xiao You glared at Xi Men. Jing stared at Xi Men. Lei is shocked with Xi Men.

Now that is too… overprotective.

Xiao You sat at the recliner at the balcony with her eyes close. She listened to the chirping birds flying around… cars driving by on the road downstairs, honks and some people talked loudly on their cell phone.

So much for being in ‘heaven’.

“Xiao You?”

Now that did not sound like heaven for her. In fact, that is not what she expected to hear. Xiao You opened her eyes, turned and looked at Xi Men who sat down at the other empty recliner next to her.

“Enjoying the sight?”

“Yeah, with my eyes close,” she said sarcastically, and then closed her eyes.

He smirked. “Are you angry at me for not allowing you to go out?”

“Why should I?”

“Because… you wanted to go out?” he said.

She kept quiet and then turned her head lightly.

“Next time, okay… we’ll go out next time, when there’s someone taking care of you,” Xi Men said.

She did not respond.

He smirked slightly. “I’ll get back in okay… don’t stay here too long, you might catch a cold. And then the baby might not be a healthy baby,”

She opened her eyes when he rose to his feet and walked back in.

“What? I can’t even sit at the balcony for LONG now?” she mumbled.

Xi Men halted his steps, turn back and looked at Xiao You, whom Xiao You is facing straight.

He suddenly speaks, that surprised Xiao You as she thought he had left. “You can sit, but not too long. I’ll get you your blanket if you want to sit longer, okay?”

“It’s 10am, Xi Men! How can it be cold!” she said.

“I’m just concern about you,” he smiled. “Be good, okay,” he leaned over and kissed her forehead.

Xiao You and Xi Men stare at each other. They frowned.

Xiao You immediately turned her head and looked straight.

Xi Men immediately cleared his throat, pretend nothing happened and walk into the house.
