CEO room. Xi Men Corporation.
Xi Men’s right hand flips the pen expertly in between his fingers while his left hand supports his seemingly heavy head.
He had his gaze at the twirling pen in his right hand.
He took a deep breath, and then exhaled it.
*Flashback to 12 years ago.
Xi Men – my beloved.
Xi Men stared straight at the billboard in front of him. It took him a while before he smirks in disbelief.
He tried to hold his emotions that are stirring in him.
He tried looking away for a while, but his eyes will soon straighten back to the billboard.
All along, he has been one who is good with controlling his feelings and emotions, but this time he fails.
His tears fell.
“I am XI MEN!!” he yelled. “Idiot,”
Xiao You looked at Xi Men, who soon, raised his hand up to cover the lower half of his face.
And he is still fighting to control his emotions.
Xiao You walked towards him and looked at him.
This is the first time she sees him reacting like this.
She is unsure how to console him.
She doesn’t know what to say, and she doesn’t know what to do.
Xi Men gazes to Xiao You who is in front of him.
He then raised his hand up, wraps it around her shoulder and pulls her to him, hugging her.
She heard him sniffing.
But that’s about it.
He didn’t move much.
Xi Men stared straight to the billboard, until the sun goes up and the reflection is gone.
He soon lowered his head down and takes note of Xiao You in his embrace.
This woman… looked for this (billboard) for him.
Xiao Gen is past.
Whatever Xiao Gen wants to show Xi Men is no longer important, no longer significant.
He removed his hand, which is around her shoulder, slowly.
And they pulled back from each other.
Xiao You then lifted her head up and looked at him.
He gives her a smile.
She returned with a faint smile.
“I don’t know what to say. But I guess… ‘thank you’,” he said, looking at her.
Xiao You looked at him, “You… are welcome,” still unsure what else to say.
He smirks, and then lifted his head up to look at the billboard. “How long have you been searching for this?”
“Almost 2 weeks,”
Startled, he turned his head to look at her, “Two weeks?”
“So… so long?” he asked, remained taken aback.
She smirks. “Yes,” she said. “I’ve gone to most tall buildings. This is actually the last one,”
“Oh…” he said.
He then swallowed the lump in his throat.
He smirks again, “You’ve been searching for this for two weeks… and for that period I have been…” and he stopped just right there, didn’t say anything further.
‘Going out with girls, drink… fool around…’ he continued the statement in his mind.
“I am glad I managed to find this for you,” Xiao You said.
“You know you don’t have to,” Xi Men said. “It’s past,”
“Despite it is past, you have been living with it until now,” Xiao You said.
Xi Men gazes to her, “Living with it?” he repeated after her. “I am not,”
She looked at him, “You are,”
“I said I am not,”
“You are. You just didn’t know it,”
His gaze turned to a glare, “Don’t speak in a way you know me well, Xiao You,”
Noticing his glare but choose not to back down, “Yes, I admitted I don’t know you well, but what you told me about Xiao Gen is enough for me to say you have been living with it until now,” she said.
Xi Men stared at Xiao You, (he) beginning to get furious.
She looked at him, “Your facial expression when you told me about Xiao Gen; you regretted about what you’ve done. But there is nothing we can do about that now. I do not want you to continue living in regret. So the only thing I can do is to look for the billboard Xiao Gen wants to show you with hopes that you can move on from…”
Right at that moment, Xi Men turned around and walked, ignoring Xiao You who hasn’t done talking.
He is utterly annoyed now.
He heard enough of it.
He wanted to raise his voice at her, but he decided the best is to walk away; to stop listening to everything once and for all.
“Xi Men,” she called out to him.
He continued ignoring her; and he remained walking.
“This is the last time I am going to see you,”
Hearing that, his footsteps stop; but he didn’t turn around to look at her.
‘Last time…?’ he thought to himself.
He felt hot blood rushed to his head.
“I came back from Canada to see you; because I am not willing to let you go without fighting,” she said.
Xi Men’s gaze strayed slightly, and Xiao You is still at his back.
He knew about that (*about she is not willing to let go). She told him this.
“I thought… with you living your life like this… I didn’t even expect to hear about…” she swallowed the lump in her throat. “But now that you told me about Xiao Gen… I realized that… there’s apparently someone… in your heart, all along…”
Xi Men swallowed the lump in his throat.
He then heard footsteps, getting closer to him.
He slowly turned his head around and looked at Xiao You who had approached him and stood in front of him now.
She looked at him.
“You are right. You are not capable to love,” she said it right to his face.
He looked at her, somehow triggered by those words.
“Because despite having feelings for someone, you couldn’t bring yourself to tell her…” she took a deep breath and then exhaled it, “Or perhaps… the right words are… you couldn’t face your feelings,”
He clenched his teeth beneath the closed lips.
“The other day… when you told me she wanted to show you this billboard and you stood her up… your face bears sorrow and regret,” Xiao You said. “I am saddened to see that look on your face. I noticed how important it is to you. That is why I do this for you,” she turned her head to look at the billboard. “I admit I want to see what she wants to tell you, but what I want the most is to see the sorrow and regrets in you go away,”
He swallowed the lump in his throat as he looked at her.
“Xi Men, a part of me is really stubborn about being with you. Because I really, really like you,”
He remained looking at her, hearing her confession again.
“But today… right now, I understand. I don’t think there is anyone else that could top Xiao Gen in your heart. And… it also means, no matter how hard I try, I do not, and will not have the chance at all to get into your heart. So, I have decided. I am not going to try changing things anymore,” she said, looking at him. “I am going to let you go now,” she uttered. “I won’t come back to look for you anymore,”
He stared at her.
He did not know why.
Her words pierced his heart.
“All the best, Xi Men…” she gave him a smile, despite tears begins to form in her eyes.
“I…” he stammered.
For once, he doesn’t know what to say.
She smiled briefly, as a tear fell onto her face; she quickly wiped it off.
He saw her fallen tear, he knew she is sad.
She sniffs hard, and pretended everything is okay, “I’ve got to go,” she turned around almost immediately.
Startled at what she said, he quickly grabbed her arm and stopped her from walking away, “Where are you going?” he asked her as her head turned to the rooftop’s exit.
“Home,” she said, with her back facing him, “Back to where I belong,”
“Back to where you belong?” he repeated after her.
“Toronto, Canada. I am leaving today,” she slowly turned her head to look at him.
He is surprised. “Today?”
She nodded. “Yes, today,”
“I…” he swallowed the lump in his throat again, “I can send you to the airport,”
She smiled. “Thank you for your offer, but public transportation is convenient,”
He swallowed the lump in his throat; she rejected his offer.
“I am going back to my aunt’s place to pack up, and then I will head to the airport for my 11am flight,”
“Yes, so I really need to go now,” she said, swallowing the lump in her throat.
He could only look at her, speechless still.
She looked at him, and gave him a small smile.
She turned around again, gently removing his hand that is holding her arm as she wants to leave, and instead, he grabbed her arm again, pulling her to him and embraces her.
Xiao You is taken aback to be in his embrace all of a sudden.
Xi Men swallowed the lump in his throat, “Xiao You,” he called out as he hugged her, “Thank you… thank you for doing this for me…”
Xiao You smiled gratefully as tears fell. “You… are welcome,”
He didn’t know when, his tears had formed in his eyes.
Xiao You pulled back from the hug, “Take care,” she said without looking at him, and then quickly turned around and runs to the exit.
And he could only watch.
And his tears fell belatedly.
*End of flashback.
Xi Men puts the pen that he has been twirling down on the desk.
He then locks his fingers together, resting the clasped hands on his abdomen and leaned his back against his CEO chair.
He then closed his eyes.
*Flashback to days ago.
He rose to his feet, heads to her, slides his right hand to the back of her head and kisses her on her lips.
She is momentarily taken aback by that…
But she soon closed her eyes and responded to the kiss.
She kisses him back.
She raised her hands slowly and circled them around his neck.
He slowed down, and gently pulls back from the kiss.
Both of them opened their eyes slowly and looked at each other.
Just few inches away from each other.
He looked at her slightly parted lips, and he runs his right thumb on her lower lip.
He raised his gaze up to meet her in the eyes.
And he leaned forward; kissing her again.
*End of flashback.
Xi Men opened his eyes and looked at the desk phone.
“CEO Xi Men,” Secretary Xu called out to him via the desk phone.
Xi Men sits up straight.
Enough of recollections.
Back to work.
Sitting on the bed and leaning against the headboard, Xiao You looked at the screen of her smartphone.
Slowly, she slides her finger across the screen to see the photos, one after another.
Xi Men and her; taking photos together.
She looked at the picture of Xi Men.
This is in the tram to the peak.
She smiled briefly.
Sitting on the bed and leaning against the headboard, Xi Men looked at the screen of his smartphone.
He looked at the photos on his phone, swiping one after another.
Xiao You and him together.
They took quite a few together.
Seeing her sweet smile on the photo, it brought a smile to his face.
He took a deep breath, and then rested his head against the pillow.
Xiao You pushed the glass door and entered the lobby of the service apartment; and then heads straight to the lift.
It is the end of a working day.
Time to go back and relax.
The receptionist glances over at Xiao You for a brief while as she (Xiao You) enters the lobby, before the receptionist then gazes to the desk where she is sitting at and then suddenly, “Ah, Miss Yang,” the receptionist called out.
Xiao You halted her steps and then turned to look at the receptionist, “Hello Erin,”
“You have a letter today,” Erin stands up on her feet at the same time she said that.
“Letter?” Xiao You is surprised.
“Yes,” Erin said, extending an envelope to Xiao You.
If she did not see the envelope on the desk just a second earlier, she would have forgotten to pass it to Xiao You.
Xiao You frowned. “But no one sends me anything here…” she walked to the receptionist.
She then took the letter from Erin, and she looked at it, without opening it.
Yang Xiao You.
That is all that’s written on the envelope.
She turned the envelope around to the back, and there’s nothing too.
No address; means this is not delivered by a postman or a delivery guy.
Most likely this is a ‘hand-delivered’ job.
‘Who would have sent it like this?’
“Did sender leave a name?” Xiao You asked.
“No,” Erin replied.
Could it be…
Is it who she thinks it is?
“A guy?” Xiao You looked at Erin.
“No, a female,”
“Female?” Xiao You is startled with the answer.
“Yes, she wears glasses,”
“Glasses?” Xiao You repeated after Erin.
“Yes. And she had a really adorable voice,”
Does having an adorable voice suitable to be used as a reference to someone?
But… who is that?
As far as she knows, she doesn’t know any female that fits that description. Adorable voice and wears glasses?
When Erin mentions it is a female in the first place, she (Xiao You) already couldn’t figure it out.
Who else knows she stays here, and would send things to her?
Who could it be?
Xiao You looked at the sealed envelope in hand.
Maybe it is written in there?
“Oh well,” she said, giving up on guessing who the sender is, for now. She then looked at Erin, “Thank you,”
After entering her service apartment, Xiao You grabbed the stationery cutter knife from her bag of stationeries and uses it to open the envelope that has been sealed.
She then takes out the contents of the envelope.
And a letter.
“What is this…”
She then opened the letter…
Be at Victoria Peak’s observatory at 7.50pm tomorrow.
You will know who I am there.
She looked at the ticket.
And then she returned her gaze to the letter in her hand.
